  1. Prevalence of Corruption in Media (PCM): number of entries in the time range.
  2. Absolute Reported Corruption (ARC): number of entries in the time range that belong to the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus for corruption cases.
  3. Relative Reported Corruption (RRC): number of entries in the time range that belong to the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus for corruption cases, minus average number of entries for the region.
  4. Corruption Size (CS): Estimated number of entries for the current year, or (estimated) number of entries for the time range, that belong to the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus (minus number of entries of the “**Monitoring Report” Sub-type) for corruption cases, divided by number of administrative divisions in the country.
  5. Frequency (occurrence rate): average number of entries per day for the time range that belong to the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus for corruption cases.
  6. Intensity (scandal rate): average value result of Page multiplied by Relevance for the time range (or average value result of Word count for the time range) for entries that belong to the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus for corruption cases.
  7. Economic Impact: number of cases divided by GDP, by main Amount of each case.
  8. Estimated Perception of Corruption (EPC): Σ Potential impact on popular perceptions of corruption.
  9. Corrected Level of Corruption (CLC): Estimated number of cases for the current year, or (estimated) number of cases for the time range, that belong to (1) the “Unfavorable” Direction of impact on the legitimacy of the State apparatus (minus: number of entries of the “**Monitoring Report” Sub-type) for corruption cases, (2) the “Official” Original source of information/allegations, and (3) the “Incumbent” or “Incumbent+former” Actors involved in wrongdoing (general); weighted by (a) Scale of the corruption networkAmount, and Legality, and (b) level of media opposition / level of popular approval / media congestion / freedom of press / freedom of information.

 

Case statistics

  • Core Length: number of days from beginning to end when coverage did not miss more than 3 consecutive days.
  • Relative Length: number of weeks in which the case was covered at least four days of a seven-day period.
  • Volume of Coverage: average number of entries per week.
